New England consist of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. This region is mostly settled by the Separatists and the Puritans, people who wanted religious freedom. The Separatists started the Plymouth colony so they could escape the Church of England and practice their religion freely. The Puritans settled the Massachusetts Bay area. They wanted to purify the Church of England but had to escape to avoid religious persecution.
